Some patients feel they look tired, angry, or upset when in fact they are not. Age can cause thick and heavy lines to occur and remain in the forehead area. A brow lift is a surgical procedure to correct deep frown lines, horizontal forehead creases, and droopy eyebrows.
The face is a complex interconnection of muscles. During a surgical consultation, Dr. Doherty will examine the underlying cause of the forehead wrinkles and determine whether a brow lift or another form of cosmetic treatment is appropriate. In certain cases, the effect of a brow lift can be magnified by combining it with other procedures, such as a facelift, eyelid surgery laser resurfacing or neurotoxin (Botox Cosmetic® or Dysport™ injections).
The Brow Lift Procedure
Dr. Doherty utilizes a traditional open incision brow lift. An incision is placed across the scalp. Through this incision, Dr Doherty will lift and alter the tissues beneath the skin of the forehead. Sutures may be used to secure the eyebrows into a higher position.
After your brow lift is complete, patients will find that their face has a naturally rested, refreshed look. Some patients may have numbness along the incision and into the scalp. This can last up to a year after surgery but typically resolves.
