LATISSE™ for Eyelash Prominence
LATISSE™ (bimatoprost solution 0.03 is a prescription treatment for hypotrichosis (reduced amount of hair) used to grow eyelashes. When used appropriately, LATISSE™ makes eyelashes longer, thicker and darker.
The FDA approved LATISSE™ in 2008 and is one of the first FDA-approved pharmaceutical to enhance eyelash prominence.
LATISSE™ is believed to affect the growth phase of the eyelash hair cycle in two ways. It increases the length of the growth phase and it increases the number of hairs in this growth phase. The results of using LATISSE™ are seen gradually with significant improvement noticed within two months.
Clinical trials have demonstrated the safety and effectiveness of LATISSE™. The most common side effects of LATISSE™ (4% of users) are eye itching or eye redness. Other less common side effects include skin darkening, eye irritation, dryness, or redness of the eyelids.
Ideal patients are not pregnant, not breast feeding, are free of eye issues and are not suffering from glaucoma. In Massachusetts, a physician must write a prescription for LATISSE™.
