A common misperception when it comes to breast augmentation is that the procedure is solely about increasing volume. While volume is a critical component, the goal of a well-executed breast augmentation is to improve the shape of your breasts in order to create and/or restore proper proportion throughout your torso. This is what makes it such a popular and potentially powerful procedure. While a traditional breast augmentation works for many of my Boston area patients, there has always been a subset of women who felt that the end result was simply too much for them. It was frustrating to not be able to offer these women a viable option for changing the shape of their breasts and rejuvenating body contour. However, thanks to a new cutting-edge breast implant procedure, this is no longer the case. Figuring out if the Motiva® Preservé Breast Augmentation is right for you best begins with scheduling an in-person consultation with a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon, such as myself, who specializes in breast surgery.

Motiva® Preservé Consultation in Boston
To achieve a great result with any aesthetic procedure, it must be the right one for your unique anatomy, needs, lifestyle and desired outcome. During our initial meeting, I will listen closely to what bothers you about your body contour. We will review photos of breasts that you like in order to ensure that we are both on the same page in terms of the “look” that you want to achieve. I will ask extremely detailed questions about you:

- Medical history
- Family history
- Lifestyle, including diet & exercise routine
- Whether or not you smoke
- Any prior procedures & how your body recovered
I will then conduct a thorough physical exam to assess:
- Degree of native breast volume
- Skin health
- Amount of skin laxity, if any
- Breast asymmetry
- Chest measurements
Together, we will go over the best treatment plan for delivering your goal look.
Are You a Candidate for Motiva® Preservé Technique?
As mentioned, the Motiva® Preservé technique is ideal for women who want a small boost in volume to improve breast shape. This is a group that hasn’t been well served with a traditional breast augmentation as even the smallest breast implant was too much for them. So, if you are someone in good overall health, who has a smaller frame and lower BMI, and who desires only a subtle enhancement to the breasts without a considerable amount of upper pole fullness then this may be the procedure for you. While this procedure does still involve the placement of a specific type of breast implant, the technique is both less invasive and may require less anesthesia thus making the recovery faster.
What Makes Motiva® Preservé Different?
What makes the Motiva® Preservé procedure different is twofold. First is the implant itself. The Motiva SmoothSilk Ergonomix® breast implant features a unique shell for biocompatibility. Furthermore, the shape of this implant naturally shifts with gravity from tear drop when standing, to round when lying down for a very natural appearance. Second, the technique to place said implant uses a specialized, specific set of instruments that stretch and separate your breast tissue to create a pocket for the implant instead of actually cutting the tissue. For this reason, the procedure preserves your natural breast tissue and chest muscles thus minimizing the chance of post-op implant malposition, nerve damage and loss of nipple sensation. Other benefits may include:
- Faster recovery
- Performed under sedation or local anesthesia
- Minimal scarring
Most importantly, the Motiva® Preservé finally gives my smaller framed patients a good option for rejuvenating the shape of their breasts.
