Non-surgical body contouring procedures continue to gain in popularity because many of us are bothered by unwanted pockets of fat and loose skin. It is incredibly frustrating for patients who follow a healthful eating plan and exercise regime to look in the mirror and not love their body contour. Unfortunately, certain pockets of fat can simply be resistant to diet and exercise, and loose skin can make the areas look even worse. Depending on their location, these fatty deposits may adversely affect your body’s proportion, making you appear heavier than you actually are. FlexSure™ is a non-invasive body contouring treatment that uses controlled radiofrequency (RF) energy to heat and rejuvenate tissue and reduce fat. As the world’s first wrappable RF applicator, FlexSure™’s cutting-edge design literally wraps around your treatment area, allowing your practitioner to access areas that have historically been harder to treat non-surgically. While it will take multiple sessions to gain your ideal results, the procedure is fast and requires no downtime. In fact, many patients schedule their appointment during their lunch hour. As an added benefit, the heat of the RF delivers a certain degree of skin tightening as it promotes your body to produce more collagen and elastin. The end result is a smoother, firmer and more youthful looking body contour.
Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Sean Doherty, prides himself on being at the forefront of innovation. However, he only offers his Boston area patients those procedures that actually work. As the Medical Director for Cynosure®, the manufacturer of TempSure®, SculpSure® and FlexSure™, for the past six years, he knows that this is a procedure that will deliver measurable results for his patients. The key to an exemplary outcome, however, always lies in proper patient selection.
Ideal Candidate for FlexSure™
When it comes to body fat, there are two kinds:
- Fat that you can pinch (extra-abdominal fat)
- Visceral fat that wraps around your organs (intra-abdominal fat)
No plastic surgery procedure will ever take the place of a balanced diet, regular exercise regime and natural weight-loss. Furthermore, all body contouring procedures, both surgical and non-surgical, can only address extra-abdominal fat. Having said that, there are also degrees of “pinchable” fat. Patients with a moderate to severe amount of extra fat are going to be best served with a surgical procedure such as liposuction either on its own or in combination with Renuvion® for non-surgical skin tightening.
FlexSure™ is a good option for any patient, male or female, in good overall health who:
- Is in relatively good shape with only a mild to moderate degree of excess fat
- Has good skin quality
- Wants a less aggressive treatment with no downtime
- Is willing to come in more often
- Does not have any metal implants or surgical scars in the area of concern
FlexSure™ may not deliver results as quickly as a more aggressive non-surgical body contouring procedure such as SculpSure®, but the trade-off is that it is a completely pain-free procedure that requires zero downtime.
What is FlexSure™?
FlexSure™ is a non-invasive, deep tissue radiofrequency (RF) treatment. RF is a form of energy that penetrates the deeper layers of your dermis. The controlled heat from the RF safely and effectively breaks down the fat cells in the treatment area. What sets FlexSure™ apart is that it utilizes the world’s first wrappable RF applicator. This peel and stick applicator is like a large band aid, able to curve and conform to not only your unique anatomy, but also reach harder to access spots such as the upper arms.
Benefits of FlexSure™
One of the biggest benefits of the FlexSure™ procedure is its ability, thanks to the unique applicator, to assess a wide range of sometimes hard-to-reach treatment areas including your:
- Abdomen
- Flanks
- Arms
- Underarms
- Back
- Inner thighs
- Outer thighs
- Knees
- Hips
- Buttocks
Other benefits of the FlexSure™ procedure include:
- Fast, treatment only takes about 15 minutes
- Pain free
- Requires no downtime
- Works on all skin types
- Effective
Furthermore, the hands-free applicator comes in multiple sizes with 6 different treatment zones making the procedure completely customizable to your individual anatomy and needs.
FlexSure™ Procedure
The FlexSure™ procedure is performed in the office and only takes about 15 minutes. The peel and stick applicators are applied directly to your treatment area — no topical numbing cream or ice is necessary. You will feel a gentle, soothing warmth. Patients describe the experience of getting a FlexSure™ procedure as akin to a hot stone massage. It is so relaxing that some patients even take a brief catnap. After 15 minutes, the applicator is removed and you are good to go. There is literally zero downtime associated with FlexSure™. While you can expect to feel some tightness in the treatment area, there is no swelling, redness or discomfort. You can return to your daily routine, including exercise, immediately after your procedure.
FlexSure™ Results
Patients can expect to begin to see results after 3 sessions per treatment area although it typically takes 5 sessions per treatment area in order to achieve your ideal result. Patients with a higher degree of excess fat may require more sessions or have other procedures recommended. It varies by patient. During your initial body contouring consultation, Dr. Doherty or a member of his staff will be able to give you an idea of how many FlexSure™ sessions you may require.
It is important to maintain your results with a good diet full of fruits and vegetables and regular exercise. Honestly, most patients feel so much healthier and comfortable in their skin after their FlexSure™ procedure that embracing a more healthful lifestyle is easy.

FAQs about FlexSure™
Without assessing you in person, it is impossible to say which body contouring procedure would be right for you. FlexSure™ can be an excellent option for slimming down a mild muffin top. However, if you have a fairly severe amount of overhang when you put on your jeans, you may want to consider a more intense procedure. It really comes down to your anatomy and tolerance for downtime.
Non-surgical body contouring procedures such as FlexSure™ can be a great way to get rid of troublesome pockets of fat. Figuring out how expensive your FlexSure™ procedure will be is impossible without first seeing you in person. I need to assess the skin and tissues on your abdomen in order to determine whether or not this will an effective procedure for your unique anatomy and needs as well as how many sessions you are going to need. In general, it takes between 3-5 sessions to achieve an ideal result, and FlexSure™ sessions cost between $1,500-$2,000 for three treatments per area. I typically recommend 3-5 treatments, spaced 5-7 days apart for ideal results.
I love that patients do their research online before they come in to see me. It creates a common language before you even step foot in the office. However, the internet is also not discriminating. It fails to take into account your individual anatomy, needs and lifestyle. What worked for your favorite influencer may not be the best choice for you. In general, a tummy tuck is for patients with a moderate to severe amount of excess fat, loose skin and possibly loose muscles. TempSure®, SculpSure® and FlexSure™ are for patients with a mild to moderate degree of extra fat and fairly good skin elasticity. My best advice would be for you to schedule an in-person consultation with a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon in your area to be assessed.
Wrinkly knees are the result of a loss of elasticity in the skin and tissues on the thighs. FlexSure™ does deliver a certain degree of skin tightening. For patients that have good quality skin and appropriate expectations, FlexSure™ may be a great option for the knees.
One of the most common treatment areas for a FlexSure™ procedure is the derrière. The wrappable applicator does an excellent job of subtly sculpting the buttocks without the need for any incisions or downtime.
