Plastic surgery is like any other form of art. What’s popular changes with the times. It’s true for all areas of aesthetics such as interior design, fashion and beauty. Currently, we’ve entered what many are calling the “undetectable era” in plastic surgery. Patients today are more apt to prioritize subtle, natural-looking outcomes as opposed to the recent past, when a more overdone look was often “en vogue”. What’s interesting about this shift is that it also coincides with patients’ willingness to be honest about the work that they’ve had done. Social media has eradicated much of the stigma that used to be attached to plastic surgery while also allowing patients to track shifting trends in real time. This move dovetails nicely with my personal practice philosophy.

Body Contouring is Never One-Size-Fits-All
As a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon, I have dedicated my career towards staying abreast of the latest body contouring procedures, techniques and emerging technologies to help my Boston area patients to look great while always honoring their unique individuality. As mentioned, the internet and social media have radically changed how people interact with plastic surgery. On the positive side, it’s allowed patients access to a treasure trove of information regarding various procedures for rejuvenating the body. However, the negative side of the web is that the information is often presented as being universal when body contouring is never one-size-fits-all. Your best friend, favorite celebrity or sister might get a great result with a certain size breast implant, but this is no guarantee that you will as well. The most critical thing to understand about any aesthetic procedure is that it will not work if it does not suit your individual:
- Anatomy
- Lifestyle
- Goals
This is why I strongly encourage patients to always schedule an in-person consultation.
Body Contouring Consultation in Boston
During our meeting, we will discuss what bothers you about your body contour. I will ask detailed questions about your family history, medical history, lifestyle, any prior procedures that you’ve had, aesthetic or not, as well as how your body recovered. It’s important to be as forthright with me as possible even if it makes you uncomfortable. This information is a critical component to devising the best treatment plan for your needs. Next, I will perform a physical exam to assess:
- Skin tone & texture
- Native breast volume
- Nipple position
- Degree of skin laxity
- Health of existing breast implant, if applicable
Together, we will go over the ideal procedure for achieving your desired outcome.
Breast Surgery Aesthetics Trending Smaller
Breast surgery aesthetics are trending smaller. Many women are working out regularly and embracing a more athletic-looking body contour. Ballerina/Yoga breasts is the new catch phrase for this specific look. For first time breast augmentation patients, I am generally placing a smaller breast implant either on its own or with the addition of fat grafting to the breast to improve:
- Breast shape
- Provide implant coverage in very thin or fit patients
- Increase upper pole fullness
Again, the “undetectable era” is all about creating the breast shape that will best transform your entire torso, giving you more volume and body confidence without that overstuffed look. There are additional benefits to a smaller implant such as:
- Less chance of complication
- Long-lasting result
For patients with an existing implant who come in for revision breast surgery, the trend today is to remove the original implant all together. Patients are opting to not replace the old implant, even with a smaller size. In most cases, I will need to perform a breast lift to excise loose skin and return your nipple position to the center of your breast mound, but all of this will be discussed in detail during your initial consultation.
