If you haven’t heard by now, there’s a new FDA-approved body sculpting treatment on the rise – and it’s showing incredible promise in targeting stubborn fat cells around the waist and abdomen.
The treatment is SculpSure, and it’s the only non-invasive FDA-cleared laser treatment for body contouring. Best of all, a SculpSure treatment lasts just 25 minutes.
It’s the kind of results that busy patients are falling in love with!
At board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Sean Doherty’s practice in downtown Boston, many of his patients are curious about the difference between heating and cooling body contouring treatments. With the addition of SculpSure on the market, what’s really better for body contouring – a heating treatment like SculpSure, or a cooling procedure like CoolSculpting?
The answer largely lies with the patient. Cooling body contouring treatments are effective with good patient satisfaction rates, but treatments can last anywhere from one to two hours, depending on how many areas are being treated. Additionally, cooling body contouring treatments don’t address skin laxity issues. Heating treatments may encourage skin contraction, as well as long-term production of collagen and elastin.
For patients who may be concerned with not seeing results due to skin laxity issues, SculpSure may be the better choice. SculpSure works by using laser energy to target and destroy fat cells in the treatment area, all while keeping the skin safe and intact. The destroyed fat calls are then removed through normal metabolic systems.
Some patients can expect to see appreciable results after three weeks; optimal results are usually seen after six weeks. Some patients may see enough results after one SculpSure treatment, but patients with more moderate pockets of fat may require a second treatment, which should be done two months after the first treatment.
SculpSure was created by Cynosure, located in Westford, MA. Dr. Doherty is Medical Director for Cynosure and has been a principal investigator during the development and FDA approval stages of Cynosure. Cynosure and Dr. Doherty are actively working for additional uses of Sculpsure.
