Aesthetic needs change with every decade. Starting in your mid-20’s, the levels of collagen and elastin, which are two of the factors that keep your skin looking lifted, supple and youthfully plump, begin to naturally decline. This may often be combined with other skin issues like acne and textural changes. The latter can definitely be exacerbated by lifestyle choices such as sun exposure and hydration.
Creating an appropriate skincare regime along with education regarding these choices is my go-to for my 20-something Boston area patients. Taking proper care of your skin is one of the greatest anti-aging tools at your disposal. In terms of aesthetic procedures, the right one is going to depend on your needs. Here are some of the best aesthetic treatments for your 20’s.

Skincare & Sunscreen
When it comes to skincare, I always tell my patients that earlier is better. Your 20’s can be a time of upheaval emotionally and physically. In terms of the skin, patients may still be dealing with acne while also having to cope with textural changes such as fine lines and wrinkles. It can be incredibly frustrating. So, the first line of defense is establishing a good skincare regime. The type of product may vary depending on your skin’s unique needs, but I generally recommend the following for all of my 20-something patients:
- Wash skin 2x/day
- Exfoliate weekly
- Moisturize daily
- Sunscreen daily
Many patients with oily skin do not realize that the appropriate moisturizer will actually help to slow down oil production. And sunscreen is the single greatest rejuvenation tool out there. It will help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and sun spots. Furthermore, the sun adversely affects collagen and elastin production so less sun = firmer looking skin.
Lifestyle Choices for Optimum Rejuvenation

One of the great things about being in your 20’s is that there is a sense of invincibility. The upside is that you may find yourself more willing to take risks and try new things. The downside is that you may not realize the long-term effect of the choices you make or don’t make now. Whenever I meet a new 20 something patient, I always discuss how certain lifestyle choices can lead to optimum rejuvenation. It’s like putting money in the aesthetic bank. These include:
- Limiting sun exposure
- Wearing a hat when outside
- Daily sunscreen habit
- Maintaining proper hydration
- Balanced diet
- Exercise regime
All of these habits will help to keep your skin and tissues looking their best.
Botox® for Prejuvenation
Another common aesthetic treatment option for someone in their 20’s is some kind of neurotoxin for prejuvenation. Botox® and Dysport® are the two neurotoxins that I use in my practice. Both work by limiting muscle mobility in the treatment area. The latter are typically parts of the face, such as the “11” lines between the eyebrows, with very active underlying muscles. The theory is that by starting to reduce the activity in these spots early, it will help to delay the aging process.
Best Aesthetic Procedures in Your 20’s
Some aesthetic changes, however, can only be attained with a surgical or nonsurgical intervention. The most popular choices for my 20-something female patients include:
- Lip augmentation with fillers
- Breast augmentation
- Abdominal liposuction
- Chin liposuction
For men in their 20’s, the most popular procedures include:
- Gynecomastia
- Liposuction for the chest and/or mid-section
- Crisper looking jawline with surgical or non-surgical fat reduction procedure
So, bottom line, it’s never too early to start taking care of yourself.
